David Adeleke, better known as Davido, a Nigerian singer, promised on Monday that his N250 million donation will aid children in orphanages.
Some supporters have expressed concern that the money will not reach the youngsters in orphanages owing to unscrupulous actions by welfare employees.
A tweep, @soibomari, said,
“I told mum what Davido did and I’ve never seen her revolt so passionately against something. She said the money won’t get to the children because welfare officers steal all.
“I hate Nigeria. She said it’s so bad that nurses never want to leave welfare homes when they’re posted there.”
Quoting the above tweet on Monday, Davido said, “I will personally make sure this doesn’t occur! I put that on my life!” (sic)
For his birthday on Wednesday, David requested that his friends and followers each donate N1 million to him.
Despite the fact that he stated that his goal was to raise N100 million, the musician received almost N53 million in financial transfers in less than an hour.
The musician received nearly N200 million in gifts from his friends in just three days. The artist chose to give back to society by donating N250 million to orphanages across Nigeria, using N50 million of his own money.
He also formed a five-person committee to oversee the cash’ distribution.
On Monday, the musician also published a screenshot of his bank account, claiming that he had contributed N50 million of his own money.
He posted on Instagram,
“My 50 million donation has been added #transparency. More details soon regarding the disbursement of funds.”
