Davido, the multi-award-winning popstar, has been trending on Nigerian social media for hours after asking his friends and admirers to donate N1 million each to him for his birthday.
When the singer and songwriter posted a video on his Instagram account asking those he had assisted in the music industry to donate him a million naira each, fans and followers assumed he was joking.
“We rise by lifting others abi?” Davido said. Me I don dey rise dey lifting others for the past 100 years. So, I want to know who my friends are. All of my friends one one million Naira. They said we are 30BG. If you don’t send your own. You out of here. You are gone (sic).”
After requesting colleagues for N1 million, he received nearly N53 million in cash payments in less than an hour. So far, the pop artist has received almost N200 million.
Nigerian businessman Obi Cubana and Femi Otedola are among his backers. The musician, on the other hand, did not reveal the amount provided to him by Femi Otedola, Obi Cubana, E-Money, Patoranking, and others.
Zlatan Ibile, Adekunle Gold, Mr Eazi, Nengi, Chike, Teni, Charles of Play, Cubana Chiefpriest, Naira Marley, M.I, Phyno, Eniola Badmus, Nasboi, Sydney Talker, and Peruzzi are among the celebrities who have given Davido N1 million.

Ikorodu Bois, a group of young comedians, sent the artist N5000, while Baba Ali sent N1.5 million. MC Galaxy, a musician and singer, contributed N3 million, while Oba Elegushi sent N5 million to the singer.
Sophia Momodu, Davido’s baby mama, also paid money to him. He did not, however, reveal the amount sent.
The musician also announced on his verified Twitter account that the bank with which he registered the fundraising account, Wema Bank, wanted to meet with him.
Davido tweeted, “Wema wanna have a meeting.”
However, as the fundraiser became more heated, the bank capitalized on the trend by posting an online message that read, “Na bank wey Davido dey use, we go dey use today.”
More so, the singer tweeted that he was emotional due to the overwhelming show of love. He wrote, “I’m actually crying !! Just be good to pple man !!!! God ! I really love you guys man.” (sic)
