Twitter is reportedly working on a feature that would allow users to link their Ethereum and Bitcoin addresses to their profiles in order to receive cryptocurrency tips. The update might be used to improve the Tip Jar feature, which was introduced earlier this year by Twitter.
Twitter is working on enabling users to receive Cryptocurrency tips through the Tip Jar feature. In a conversation with investors and analysts in July, CEO Jack Dorsey described Bitcoin as a “big part” of the company’s future and suggested that it be implemented.
It was discovered by Alessandro Paluzzi, a mobile app developer, that the San Francisco-based company was adding the feature. He then posted a tweet with screenshots of the new options.
In the first screenshot, it appears that Twitter will allow users to copy the Ethereum and Bitcoin addresses to send tips via the Tip Jar feature. The second and third examples demonstrate the ability to link user profiles to Ethereum and Bitcoin addresses, respectively.
Paluzzi also shared a screenshot of the Tip Jar function on his Twitter account, which appears to indicate that Bitcoin will be supported. Kayvon Beykpour, Twitter’s product lead, appeared to confirm the development as well, reacting to the tweet with a lightning bolt emoji and another comment stating that the feature would be available “soon.”
Beykpour, on the other hand, did not provide any additional information regarding when the feature would be made available to users. On the other hand, Paluzzi’s screenshot suggests that the tech giant is considering using the Lightning Network payment transfer technology to allow users to make Bitcoin tips.
In May, Twitter launched the Tip Jar feature, which gives journalists, producers, and non-profits the ability to monetize their tweets by converting them into tips. In the beginning, the firm allowed users to link their Cash App, Bandcamp, Pay Pal, Patreon, and Venmo accounts in order to collect tip payments. It appears like Twitter will be integrating cryptocurrencies as a new payment method in the near future.
Dorsey has been a proponent of cryptocurrencies for quite some time. In August, he predicted that Bitcoin would bring the United States back together after years of division.
