Bandits overran the Yasore community in Katsina State’s Batsari Local Council on Tuesday in a multi-hour operation.
As usual, the notorious gunmen who defiled the State’s ongoing security measures arrived on motorcycles.
During the attack on the community, the spokesman of the State Police Command, SP. Gambo Isah confirmed that 11 people were killed and ten others were injured, though community sources put the number of those killed at 16, with several others wounded.
According to SP. Gambo, the attack was carried out by herdsmen in retaliation for the deaths of their members, who were recently allegedly killed by volunteer vigilantes known locally as ‘Yan Sakai.’
“Yes, the attack on the community is true, and unfortunately, 11 people were killed, and ten others were injured to varying degrees.” The attack was retaliation by herdsmen whose members had recently been killed by Yan Sakai.
“Yan Sakai is still prohibited, and anyone caught dressing up as one will be treated like a bandit,” SP. Gambo warned.
Aside from those killed and injured in the attack, the hoodlums wrecked havoc on the community by setting several houses on fire, looting and carting away cash, foodstuffs, phones, clothing items, and rustling several cattle before fleeing.
Remember that the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, recently alerted the Federal Government to the fact that hoodlums, despite the closure of communication channels in banditry-prone areas, are still able to carry out their heinous crimes.
