Iba Gani Adams, Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, has criticized Nigeria’s unending borrowings despite its oil wealth.
In his message commemorating the nation’s independence, Adams stated that the country was founded on lies and demanded that regions be given the freedom to develop at their own pace.
The Yoruba leader noted that this would also allow them to build their own security architecture to supplement the Federal Government’s.
Adams bemoaned how leaders in the past and present have strayed from human development policies to self-serving programs while millions suffer.
He stated that many countries are prospering because their federation was founded on equity, justice, and truth.
Adams warned the government not to take excessive loans that could jeopardize the nation’s future.
“Fear has spread across the country as a result of the recent spate of insecurity. This has resulted in a loss of hope, particularly given the federal government’s never-ending borrowings.
“Many people refer to Nigeria as the Giant of Africa, but the irony is that the federation was founded on lies. This has had an impact on the entire system.
“Every region is blessed. Natural resource development, solid minerals, and agriculture can work their magic and help us make more money,” Adams added.
