Gunmen storms Imo state Monarch’s palace, set it ablaze

Unknown persons set fire to the palace of HRH Eze Obi Ralph Ekezie, the traditional ruler of Obor Autonomous Community, a neighboring community to Omuma, Gov Hope Uzodinma’s hometown in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State, around 4 p.m. on Thursday.

According to an eyewitness who spoke to reporters on the condition of anonymity, the arson caused some damage to the monarchs’ property as well as two other buildings in his community.

He also stated that the fire was later extinguished by the combined efforts of community members.

The monarch, who spoke to reporters by phone, confirmed the incident but blamed the burning of his palace on those he called “enemies of progress” in his community.

The monarch also stated that he was keeping an eye on the situation from his residence in Owerri, the capital of Imo State.

He expressed sadness, saying that the extent of the damage could not be determined until he returned home tomorrow.

When contacted, Michael Abattam, the Imo State police spokesman, stated that the command was not aware of any such incident.
