Police in Ogun State reported they shot and killed two bandits while combing the bushes for kidnappers terrorizing the state.

According to police, the suspected kidnappers were involved in a gunfight in Bere forest on the Lagos-Ibadan highway’s Onigaari section.

This was in response to a public tip that “AK-47-wielding hoodlums numbering around six were spotted in the forest,” presumably looking for people to kidnap.

The Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, was claimed to have promptly dispatched the command’s tactical squads to comb the woodland, commanded by CSP Olusola Oniyiku, the DPO of Owode Egba Division.

When the hoodlums saw the cops, they opened fire on them, and the cops replied appropriately.

On Saturday, Abimbola Oyeyemi, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), revealed that one of the bandits was killed on the spot, while others fled with bullet wounds.

“One of the criminals with bullet wounds was detained in the bush while combing the woodland, but he gave up the ghost a few minutes later,” Oyeyemi said.

The perpetrators were reportedly found with two AK-47 rifles, as well as five rounds of ammunition.
