On Friday, the Kwara State Police Command reported the kidnapping of a farmer in the state’s Kwara South Senatorial District by four armed men.
Mr Okasanmi Ajayi, the command’s spokesman, said in Ilorin on Friday that “reports of an abduction were received that one Shola Oladipo (m), a farmer, was taken by four persons reported to be armed at a distant farm community in Akere via Rore village, in Kwara South Senatorial District.”
“The Commissioner of Police, Tuesday Assayomo, has set in motion an all round effort through deployment of the command’s tactical units in conjunction with local hunters and vigilantes to move into the surrounding bushes of the farm settlement to effect the rescue of the victim unhurt and possible arrest of the abductors,”
In a statement issued by the association’s spokeswoman, Olayinka Owolewa, the association’s president, Major-General Lasisi Abidoye (RTD), acknowledged the development.
He said the man was kidnapped on his way to his farm at Rore, a nearby hamlet of Omu-Aran, the capital of Kwara State’s Irepodun Local Government Area.
The association described the development as unfortunate.
“Efforts are on to rescue him through the combined efforts of local hunters from Omu-Aran, Rore, Aranorin, the Civil Defence Corps and the Police force,” the body added.
The Olomu of Omu-Aran, Oba Abdulraheem Adeoti, was praised by the organization for organizing a prayer session targeted clearing the town of criminals.
It further urged residents to report unusual activity in the area to security services or their compound chiefs, and to avoid keeping or entertaining outsiders without valid documentation in the society
