The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has warned Nigerians not to consume frozen poultry products or other food items preserved with formalin.
NAFDAC’s spokesman, Dr Abubakar Jimoh, advised in an interview with reporters, according to NAN.
Unscrupulous business owners, according to Jimoh, have been using formalin to preserve poultry products, particularly chicken and turkey.

” Formalin has the ability to preserve such products for weeks before they reach consumers.
“NAFDAC is raising awareness of this practice among Nigerians. Despite the Federal Government’s ban, there are enough poultry products in the country to avoid having to rely on smuggled in frozen chicken,” he said.
He also cautioned consumers against patronizing business owners who smuggle poultry products into the country, saying that indigenous poultry farmers and marketers would suffer if such patronage continued.
