The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Niger State Council, has expressed sorrow over the death of Mr Sunday Abraham, retired Deputy Director, News of Radio Niger, noting that his death was a loss not only to his family and Radio Niger but to the entire media sector.
Mr Abraham died yesterday at his home in Maikunkele, in the state’s Bosso Local Government Area.
The council praised late Abraham as one of the greatest, experienced, and passionate journalists, who mentored many to become professionals in the media industry, in a condolence statement signed by NUJ State Secretary Comrade Usman Muhammad Chiji.
Mr Sunday Abraham died, according to him, at a time when his services were most required in the field of mentoring new journalists for better performance, as enshrined in the four theme areas of the current NUJ leadership in the state.
It went on to say that during his time as Head of Department, News, no bulletin would be broadcast without in-depth proofreading by him to check for grammatical problems.
Abraham, according to Chiji, is a “reference point” not only for Radio Niger’s workers but also for others.
“The deceased was a joyful, down to earth, sincere and honest guy who never harboured grudges against anyone,” according to the statement.
