According to police, Mr Samuel Ben, councillor representing Ward 6 Central in Akwa Ibom State’s Eket Local Government Area, has been kidnapped.

SP Odiko Macedon, Police Public Relations Officer, to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Eket on Tuesday, confirmed the incident.

Macedon stated that the victim was kidnapped at his fuel station on Saturday, September 25, 8 p.m.

The PPRO described the incident as “very unfortunate and unacceptable,” adding that the Commissioner of Police, Mr Andrew Amiengheme, has ordered an investigation into the incident.

“Yes, we have received a preliminary report about the incident, and we are working on it,” Macedon said.

“As I speak, a discreet investigation is underway, so I cannot deny that we have that information.

“A lot has already been done, and I believe he will be freed in no time.

“I don’t want to influence the outcome of the investigation or the police’s efforts to ensure the victim’s release.”

Macedon went on to say that the police would make sure the perpetrators were brought to justice.

Meanwhile, on September 17, Usman Gonna, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 6, directed that the police in Akwa Ibom investigate the kidnapping of two prominent sons of the state.

Senator Nelson Effiong and Dr Nsidibe Umana are two prominent sons of the state who are still in the hands of the abductors.

On September 5 and 7, they were kidnapped in Akwa Ibom, respectively.
