Certain People Don’t Want Me To Succeed – Seyi Makinde

Seyi Makinde

Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has said that some people do not want him to succeed.

On May 29th, 2019, Makinde was sworn in as the new Governor of the State. He was elected on the Peoples Democratic Party’s platform (PDP).

However, Makinde has stated that certain people do not want him to succeed.

On Sunday, he made this revelation while addressing at the Government House, Agodi, Ibadan, for the 1443/2021 Hijrah Luncheon.

Deputy Governor Engineer Rauf Olaniyan, his wife, Professor Amdalat Olaniyan; Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Debo Ogundoyin; Chief of Staff, Segun Ogunwuyi; Deputy Chief of Staff, Majeed Mogbonjubola, Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, and Islamic clerics were among those who attended the ceremony.

Some elements, according to Makinde, do not want his government to prosper.

He went on to say that he noticed images of Adamasingba stadium’s flooded surface being disseminated by some persons.

Some forces, he claimed, were spreading the photos because they didn’t want him to succeed.

The governor also stated that his government would continue to balance Christian and Muslim political appointments in the state.

“Some elements, without a doubt, do not want us to succeed,” he says.

“I saw the images of the soggy pitch that were circulating, but when our people avoided them, the opposing forces went to another area and took pictures that looked like they were taken at our Adamasingba Stadium. But what are they hoping to achieve by lying?

“Before the pandemic, when the subject of Hijra arose, I had to enlist the help of a few colleagues to see how we could keep our productivity up because I believe we already had a lot of vacation time.

But, much later, when they presented persuasive grounds that declaring a day to commemorate the Hijrah would have no economic impact, I agreed. Not only did I endorse it, but I also suggested that we plan a special celebration day where we could wine and dine.

“I’d like to take advantage of today’s event to address some of the issues that have been raised. Every time I read what people are saying on social media, those who know how we ran our campaign in 2019 would admit that we did not abuse anyone.

“In reality, the people of Oyo State are aware that we are acting responsibly. We released the Oyo State Roadmap for Accelerated Development (2019-2023) document and informed the people that they should hold us accountable for it.

“I’ll tell it again today: go look at the document. Everything we’re doing right now has been documented, and we’re just following the plan.”
