Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has advised young people to run for elective positions in the 2023 general elections if they want to be in power.
On Monday, Osinbajo stated this during a two-day retreat for young lawmakers in Lagos.
He warned that power is never handed out on a silver platter.
The vice-president, represented by President Muhammadu Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Babajide Omoworare, stated that the not-too-young-to-run movement would be defeated if youths did not run for elective positions.
“As we prepare for the 2023 general elections, we must recognize that increased youth participation should not be mere rhetoric.
“Power is never handed to you on a silver platter. You cannot win if you do not bid. We also need to register to vote.
“The whole point is to ensure that youths are involved in the democratic and parliamentary processes,” Osinbajo said.
