The federal government is prepared to declare a special day to celebrate the Senior citizens of the country.

This was confirmed by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq, in a brief meeting at the federal capital territory in Abuja.

Assurance was given by the management team of the National Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC) ordained by its Director-General, Dr Emem Omokaro after he paid a visit to the minister.

The Minister said:

“We are requesting assistance for the NSCC to secure the National registration of senior citizens of Nigeria (SCN) who are 70 years and above.

“I want to assure the NSCC of my resolve to follow on with the request made by Omokaro, through the relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies”.

Before this consideration came about, NSCC DG had earlier appealed to the Federal Government to declare a day to be set aside to celebrate older persons in the country.
