The All Progressives Congress (APC) Elders Advisory Council in Oyo State has revealed why former President Goodluck Jonathan cannot run for president on the ruling party’s platform.
Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, chairman of the APC Elders Council in the state, explained that the party already has candidates lined up for president.
The former governor of the state made the remarks while appearing on Agidigbo 88.5 FM in Ibadan.
He did, however, say that while the former president was free to join the APC, he should reject the idea of running for president in 2023.
“I am not saying Jonathan cannot join the APC; however, he cannot be president of the APC in 2023.
“I’m not saying Jonathan can’t be president, but it will never be under the APC in 2023 because some people are already in line,” he said.
Jonathan has recently been linked to APC.
There are reports that the former president will abandon the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in favour of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Rumours circulated that if he joined the APC, the Bayelsa-born former president would become the party’s presidential flag bearer.
Jonathan, on the other hand, remains deafeningly silent about the rumours circulating.
Meanwhile, the APC has stated that he will be welcomed if Jonathan decides to join the party.
