Two men imprisoned for robbery in Jigawa state

Two companions were sentenced to four years in jail by the Jigawa State High Court in Gumel for criminal conspiracy and armed robbery.

On April 25, 2019, the defendants, Muhammad Sani and Rabilu Usman, were arraigned in a higher court for suspected robbery.

The suspects allegedly planned and robbed one Alhaji Saminu Hussaini of Gumel Local Government’s Dantanoma Quarters Area.

The prosecution called four witnesses and offered extrajudicial remarks from the defendants as evidence during the trial.

The court found that the prosecution had failed to prove the charge of armed robbery against two defendants, according to the presiding judge, Justice Abubakar Mohammed Sambo.

Based on the prosecution’s evidence, he found the defendants were guilty of lesser charges of criminal conspiracy and abetment.

As a result, the offenders were sentenced to four years in jail for each of the two offenses.

The sentence will be served consecutively, taking into account the time spent in detention awaiting trial since 2019.
