Olivier Giroud, a former Arsenal striker, believes the Gunners’ restricted financial power will prevent them from finishing in the top four.
Mikel Arteta spent about £150 million for Ben White, Martin Odegaard, Nuno Tavares, and Takehiro Tomiyasu this summer.
Arsenal finished outside of the European places for the first time in 25 years last season.
Arteta is optimistic that his additions would help the squad qualify for continental competition this season.
However, Giroud believes Arteta will need time to return them to the top four.
“Wow, that’s a good question!” Giroud said when asked how long it will take Arsenal to finish in the top four again. Mikel Arteta, I believe, has a chance to return to the top four.
“However, sometimes the issue is that money plays a significant role in success as well.
“When you see Chelsea spend almost £80 million (£97.5 million) on Romelu Lukaku to reinforce the forward line after winning the Champions League the year before, I believe money plays a big role.”
“With Arsenal, that’s the problem. Maybe they don’t put in as much effort as their rivals.”
