Cristiano Ronaldo of Manchester United has been named the Premier League’s Player of the Month for September.
The 36-year-old beat Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah to the prize. Ronaldo scored twice in a 4-1 victory over Newcastle United at Old Trafford on his second United debut.
In a 2-1 win over West Ham, he also found the back of the net.
On the other hand, Ronaldo was unable to prevent United from losing 1-0 to Barcelona at the end of September.
Salah equalled Ronaldo’s tally of three Premier League goals in Liverpool’s three games last month.
Andros Townsend, who scored in Everton’s wins over Burnley and Norwich, and Allan Saint-Maximin, who has been a bright spot for Newcastle despite their failure to win a game, could have been other contenders for the award.
During his first spell with United, Ronaldo won Player of the Month four times before moving to Real Madrid.
