Osimhen tests positive for COVID-19 10 days to AFCON

The coronavirus has been detected in striker Victor Osimhen.

Ten days before the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, his club made this announcement.

The club said,

“Napoli has announced that Victor Osimhen has tested positive for Covid-19 but is asymptomatic. Dr. Tartaro was due to perform a check-up on the player tomorrow.

“Consequently, the local authorities have ordered that Osimhen self-isolate and the check-up will be rescheduled after he has tested negative and his period of isolation ends.”

Osimhen, who is currently recovering from a terrible injury, was included in Nigeria’s 28-man team for the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon next month.

At first, Osimhen appeared destined to miss the tournament, which is set to begin on January 9 in Cameroon, after surgery on face fractures suffered against Inter Milan in late November saw him initially ruled out for three months.

A head-on collision with Inter defender Milan Skriniar resulted in the fractures, and he underwent surgery to implant titanium screws into his cheekbone and eye socket.

When the striker, 22, proclaimed himself fit to travel, his Italian club wanted him to stay away from Cameroon.
