Rivaldo, a Brazilian legend, has said Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah is “one of the best players in the world” and should be a contender for the Ballon d’Or in 2021.
Salah was named to the prize’s 30-man shortlist this year.
The Egyptian is one of 18 Premier League players nominated for the award.
Salah, 29, has already scored six goals in seven league appearances for Liverpool.
He also scored a brace in a 5-1 Champions League thrashing of FC Porto, after scoring in a 3-2 win over AC Milan in the first match.
Salah, who joined Liverpool from AS Roma in 2017, has also become the club’s fastest player to reach 100 goals.
“Liverpool’s Egyptian forward [Salah] is off to a great start this season, with impressive stats and a spectacular goal against Manchester City last weekend.
“Right now, he’s one of the best players in the world because his incredible goals and assists totals come from the Premier League and Champions League, two of the toughest competitions on the planet.
Rivaldo, a Betfair ambassador, wrote, “When you are so good in demanding conditions, then, of course, you are a top player who deserves to be among the contenders for the Ballon d’Or this season.”
Salah was previously named in the top ten of the Ballon d’Or, finishing fourth behind Messi, Virgil van Dijk, and Cristiano Ronaldo in 2020.
