The former Inter Milan manager, Antonio Conte, has accused Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel of not playing to Romelu Lukaku’s strengths.
Conte was speaking ahead of Chelsea’s 1-0 Champions League loss to Juventus on Wednesday night.
The Italian boasted about the work he did to improve Lukaku during their two seasons together at Inter.
“A coach is effective if he can help players improve. I believe we did excellent work with Romelu over the course of two years.
“He is a very distinct striker. Bringing Lukaku into the box is risky. When he starts from midfield, however, he is swift. It is extremely difficult to find a player who can play both as a target man and as a runner from midfield.
“I see these qualities in Erling Haaland as well. “I had been following Lukaku for a long time and wanted him even when he was at West Brom,” Conte told Sky Italia.
Lukaku has now gone two games without scoring for Chelsea, against Manchester City and Juventus.
